KUMARIMATA PRIMARY SCHOOL CHISDA
History (Brief History and Milestones of the School)
Chisda School is located in a beautiful surrounding covered by hills, valleys, fields, all around it. And was inhabited by the simple poor Adivasi people. They were totally out of touch with modern civilized society. In this scenario missionary fathers stepped in to give a ray of hope to this people by opening new venture in the field of education. As sources available to us, we see great stalwarts in the year 1954 in the persons of Fr.Ferrao and Fr.Tome who were instrumental to set up small chapel and school. Thus, Kumarimata Primary School was started as a Gujarati medium school. But later, it was seen that the local language of the people were varli, konkna, and that’s the reason, medium of instruction was changed from Gujarati to Marathi which was very well accepted by the local people. Secondly, people were very poor. It was very difficult to meet their basic needs of life. Therefore, people were not ready to send their children to school. They wanted their children to be at home and help them to earn their daily bread through agricultural and by gathering forest products for their livelihood. During this time Priest incharge had a great challenge to look out for children in their school and thus, they started visiting each and every house to look out for children in their school. As days went by many children started coming to school and that’s how Kumarimata Primary school saw the light of education till date. Thanks to all the Priests and Brothers who sow the seed of education in this poor locality. Thus, started the journey of Kumarimata Primary school at Chisda.
