History (Brief History and Milestones of the School)

Fr. Agnelo English School, the first English medium school in Silvassa, was established on 15th June 1964 through the pioneering efforts of Rev. Fr. Juao Pedro Menezes, supported by parishioners and well-wishers such as Mr. Jawahar D’Cruz, to fulfill the need for English education after the liberation of Dadra Nagar Haveli in 1954.

The school began with 45 students in Std. I in a Parish Hall with minimal infrastructure.
It was officially recognized by the Education Department of DNH on 3rd February 1965 (Letter No. EDN/119/3-2-1965).
The first principal was Rev. Fr. Juao Pedro Menezes, and Mr. Arnaldo Coutinho was the first teacher.
As the number of students grew, classes were temporarily shifted to the old convent building.
In 1989, due to the efforts of Fr. Dias and Fr. Sebastiao Mascarenhas SFX, the school was upgraded to Secondary level.
In 2001, during the tenure of Fr. Valerian D’Souza SFX, a new Higher Secondary Block was constructed and the Commerce and Science streams were launched.

Today, the school is named in honor of Blessed Fr. Agnelo de Souza, a revered Goan priest known for his holiness and commitment to education.
